On a Journey Together
Vision
A future where non-profits have the marketing and communication resources needed to create a better world for people and planet.
Mission
To provide non-profits with individualized and impactful marketing and communications services that meet immediate needs while setting up processes, plans and projects for long-lasting success.
Values
Authenticity. We value honest conversations and showing up as our true selves. We will always be authentic about our strengths and weaknesses and embrace what makes us unique.
Balance. We recognize that we are people with full and diverse lives. We are passionate about our work, but it is not all that we are. We know well-balanced lives make us better in every aspect of our life.
Open-mindedness. We enter conversations and relationships with open-mindedness and a willingness to understand. We acknowledge we have unconscious and conscious biases, and actively work to be open-minded with people whose lived experiences differ from our own. We do not tolerate hate, racism or prejudice against others.
Kindness. We believe in showing kindness in all aspects of our working relationships. We deliver honest feedback without passive aggressiveness. We treat each other with respect and look for the best in people. When conflicts arise, we will be open, honest and authentic.
Roxanne Sutton is an experienced creative and strategic communicator. With over a dozen years in communications, public relations and marketing, she’s led award-winning campaigns, launched a top 50 nonprofit podcast and built teams that produce results while having fun.
Worthy Journey Communications was born out of a desire to take some of the chaos out of nonprofit communications. While working for a nonprofit, Roxanne often partnered with other nonprofits and saw that many of the same issues plagued them all — a lack of understanding about the critical role communications plays in nonprofit organizations, staff turnover and burnout. Worthy Journey Communications aims to support nonprofit communication teams with support that meets immediate needs while setting up processes, plans and projects for long-lasting success.
Prior to launching Worthy Journey Communications, Roxanne was the Director of Communications at the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). She oversaw the association’s partnership communications, social media and email strategy, executive communications, and more. Her work has won several awards including:
2023 Association Trends and CEO Update Trendy Award Gold Winner for Best Annual Report for the NRPA 2022 Annual Report
2018 PR News’ Nonprofit Winner for Digital PR and Marketing for the NRPA Meet Me at the Park Earth Month Campaign (in conjunction with Oliver Russell)
2016 Association Trends Gold Trendy Award for Best Advocacy Campaign for the NRPA 2016 Park and Recreation Month Campaign
Association Trends Publisher's Choice Award (now the Pinnacle Award) for the NRPA 2016 Park and Recreation Month Campaign
Prior to her role at NRPA, she worked at Hill + Knowlton Strategies on a multitude of accounts ranging from energy clients to nonprofits. She graduated with honors and recognition from George Mason University with a bachelors in communication specializing in public relations. She was a member of the National Communication Association's official honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, and recipient of the George Mason Excellence in Communication Award.
